Review of The Grapes of Wrath (1940) by Hannah D — 13 Nov 2013

I'm sure I would have rated this more highly if I hadn't just read the book, but because I was so familiar with the plot, it just felt like I was re-reading the story all over again. In that respect, it was probably a good thing that the second half of the film was altered, although the fact that the ending was changed robbed audiences of a very memorable denouement.

It was good that it finished on a positive note, but I would have liked them to have been faithful to the book as not everyone will read it, and they will assume the novel ends in the same way, which is a shame.
