Aside from gorgeous cinematography, The Grandmaster doesn't have much going for it. The storytelling is haphazard, the film at times not knowing what the hell it's trying to do or say. Not to mention that it's unnecessarily confusing and doesn't even really have an ending.
Overall, it ends up feeling like it could have had an interesting story to tell, but ended up getting sidetracked somewhere along the line.
