Review of The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) by Cole M — 15 Mar 2015
It's humorous and vibrant with color but many things bugged me:
1. F. Murray Abraham, while a great actor, felt greatly miscast as the older Zero.
2. The effects work, while done in the style of old Hollywood, felt like Wes was more playing with toys and a dollhouse.
3. The film could've easily been a children's story minus the violence and language, but overall it didn't feel very groundbreaking to be or a masterpiece. It had its moments but I find that with most Wes Anderson films. They're funny and colorful but not I don't think they're as spectacular as many make them out to be.
