Review of The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) by Maximiliano D — 31 May 2017
I've had a reconciliation with Wes Anderson after the brilliant 'Moonrise Kingdom' and while perhaps this doesn't quite continue that it certainly doesn't have him booted off my Christmas Card list.
It's a very odd film to summarise, the film itself is very slight practically inconsequential. In many ways just a series of events that I couldn't care less about. The central comedic character of Fiennes' Gustave though is an absolute triumph.
He's funny, heartfelt, razor sharp...genuinely brilliant. I'm glad I watched the film, not sure I'd recommend it as such but really and truly this is Fiennes at his very best.
