Review of The Graduate (1967) by Jack W — 13 Jan 2011
I cannot even begin to do this great film justice with my limited awareness of films. Suffice it to say it has to be considered one of the top 25 films ever made. The narrative is wonderful, not only hitting issues such as the generational divide from children to parents but also capturing the tumultuousness of the decade within which the film is set.
The writing is crisp and sharp, the dialogues witty and at times biting. The acting is pitch perfect, from Hoffman's studied nervousness to the cold and calculate Anne Bancroft. The direction os Mike Nichols is spectacular and the direction he chooses to use with cinematography, editing, overall sound design are not only great but also groundbreaking.
The film makes commentary on Issues of the time and these same issues are still being dealt with to this day. Just a great film, one of the best ever and one of my all time favorites!
