Review of The Graduate (1967) by Ethan L — 01 Jul 2012
As much as I really wanted to like this movie, I just could not get passed the things that I did not like. The plot of Dustin Hoffman's character and Anne Bancroft's was just too repulsive for my taste.
What I saw from it was sexual abuse and a form of imprisonment. I'm sure that was partly the intention, but why? And how Bancroft uses her own self to keep Hoffman away from her own daughter? Her reasoning behind that was crazy.
With that, it seemed like Hoffman's character, later on, only decided to get together with Bancroft's daughter just for an escape from his corruption, not for romantic purposes. Now, the acting IS good, the editing and music flows well, and I will say that the ending of the film was the bit I liked best.
It was the point when I really started to feel the romantic tension the film was trying to imprint. All in all, that's just my own personal opinion. It's not a terrible movie at all, but it's just not near good.
