Review of The Graduate (1967) by Calib M — 21 Feb 2016
What this movie does best is create an environment where comedy and deep drama can go along side well. It has such a perfect and controlled balance between light hearted nuanced non-verbal comedy in some of the greatest scenes of this fine picture and also does it create some deeply disturbing situations in some of the low-points of the film, which is a very difficult thing to do, but masterful director Nichols succeeds in every which way along side a career-launching and defining performance by Hoffman as disillusioned college graduate Benjamin Braddock.
This movie not only spawned the great career of Hoffman, it also created the most beloved songs written and performed by the great Simon & Garfunkel (e.g Sound of Silence, Mrs. Robinson, Bridge over Troubled Waters).
This is one hell of a movie that needs to be experienced by everyone.
The Graduate is hilarious, horrid and all together a great movie.
