Review of The Graduate (1967) by Blake P — 17 Aug 2011
As we all know, one of the best movies ever made. Newly-graduated Ben (Hoffman) sees his life going nowhere, so when he gets the chance to have an affair with the much older Mrs. Robinson (Bancroft) he takes it.
But when he meets the Robinson's daughter, Elaine (Ross) they fall in love instantly, which causes Mrs. Robinson to do anything to ruin the spark. The Graduate is witty, fun, and dramatic all at the same time, and Simon and Garfunkel's music fits in the frame excellently.
Bancroft, Hoffman, and Ross all give what quite possibly could be their best performances, so obviously, they definitely earned their Oscar nominations (they should have one in my opinion). As well as the great actors, director Mike Nichols did a superb job making this movie have the realistic feel, as well as the unique cinematography that added just so much.
The Graduate is a flawless film, and any huge fan of movies should have it at the top of their list. Hey, and watch for the legendary line, "Mrs. Robinson, are you trying to seduce me?" Magic.
