Review of The Graduate (1967) by Joshua D — 27 Jun 2014
"Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me. " - Benjamin Braddock.
This beautiful and classic movie is a love of mine. Its a perfectly acted, perfectly blended, and a perfectly perfect movie. Flawless. With a hour and forty minutes of playtime it manages to deliver two stories, the love affair of of Mrs. Robinson and the love chase of Ms.Robinson. Its a phenomenon of a film.
Benjamin Braddock doesn't know what he wants to do with his life. He's stuck in a world being rolled by the influences and wants of those around him;.
"It's like I was playing some kind of game, but the rules don't make any sense to me. They're being made up by all the wrong people. I mean no one makes them up. They seem to make themselves up.".
Benjamin is scared about the future and makes the biggest mistake of his life, the affair with Mrs. Robinson. Ben goes down a road of mistakes and is ultimately confused. This goes on until he meets Elaine. Elaine would change everything. Benjamin then decides to leave the life he isn't satisfied with and chase the girl who changes everything.
The Graduate is full of emotion and every scene represents something in the graduates life. Fear, confusion, false hope, suffocation, determination, and love. Even the famous last seconds show complete emotion in just the look in Dustin Hoffman and Katharine Ross's eyes. Phenomenal.
