Review of The Grace Card (2011) by Seth C — 26 Feb 2011
"The Grace Card" centers itself around the lives of two cops, Sam and Mac. Sam is a hard working, compassionate, and religious black man while Mac is a depressed, semi-racist, hot-tempered white man.
When tragedy ensues Mac's family a second time around, Sam makes it his ambition to offer his hand to Mac through the power of God. The film certainly had a very good message behind it and had many members of the audience wiping their eyes.
I just couldn't get over the fact that it felt like I was at a VBS lesson rather than a movie. The "power of God" was used all too much in the film and almost crossed the line where it ceased from being a story to being a sermon.
Other than that, the acting was just down-right terrible in this film and there was hardly any character back story except for Mac. The movie was also very predictable the whole way through. The entire audience knew what was going to happen ten minutes before it actually did during the entire film.
The film does appeal to the "Everyone" audience, but does contain mild language, violence, and some drinking scenes. I felt that this is something you should wait for your pastor to rent to present to the congregation.
The whole thing seemed to be put together by a Sunday school teacher and not a professional filmographer or director.
