Review of The Governess (1998) by Irene C — 23 Jun 2007
A very beautiful period piece about finding yourself and love in the most unlikely of places. The clashing of different worlds (and not just the obvious of Driver's character being Jewish) is striking. "The Governess" is also very erotic and sensual which could be surprising if you're used to gratuitous sex. The soundtrack is also very unusual, beautiful and haunting.
I actually wrote a paper on "The Governess" and erotic domination for my Feminist Theory class; so if that type of theory interests you, you'll get extra enjoyment out of this movie like myself.
