Review of The Gorgon (1964) by Richard Y — 28 Aug 2007
Great to see one of the UK Hammer horror films again made in 1964. Flimsy set props, unrealistic monsters but a wonderful naivety that has been lost in the US big mega buck horror movies. And what a teat to see the wonderful teaming of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee again.
In early-twentieth-century middle-Europe, villagers are literally becoming petrified. Although the authorities try to hush the matter up it is apparent that at the full moon, Medusa leaves her castle lair and anyone looking on her face is turned to stone.
When this fate befalls a visitor, experts from the University of Leipzig arrive to try and get to the bottom of it all. This is going back in to UK film archive and worth the journey.
