Review of The Gorgon (1964) by R.john X — 02 Apr 2012
Overly long at 83 minutes! I really hoped Peter Cushing would have had more to do. Or at the very least a better death scene. But maybe the caked on grey face paint of the slow acting "gorgonizing" was a condition of his contract.
"Fine, I will wear this ridiculous fake mustache and beard, but NO face paint. A man must have some dignity." Though, Christopher Lee got less to do and more silly facial hair - his mustache looked like a small dead rodent! But at least he got to save the day, kinda.
Since almost everyone who is anyone in this movie ends up dead. Oh yeah, spoiler alert. Really. Like you were ever going to sit through this one. Plus aside from the large protagonist body count, the movie pretty much tells you who the Gorgon is by only have ONE female in the entire cast! Oh well, Dr.
Who plays the silly police chief, which is a nice little comic relief - plus a lot of social commentary on the British police state of the middle 1960s, yes.
