Review of The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (2009) by Archimedes T — 02 May 2010
There is not a huge amount going on here in terms of quality film making, however there is a great deal to appreciate here and most importantly, it's pretty darn funny...
This film does not bog itself down with anything relating to the real world and I kinda liked that. It is very very silly film. Whether it be Don Ready's pursuit of a son who isn't his, to Kathryn Hahn's unhealthy pursuit of a 10 year boy (in a 30 year old mans body), it's just totally amusing.
Up front Piven is his usual charming and brash self. He can do this kind of thing in his sleep and he is a lot of fun to watch here. The rest of the cast assembled is pretty impressive, ranging from Charles Napier's insane war veteran to Ed the 'Nard dog' Helm's wannabe Man band star... The scenes where he extols the virtues of N Sync and how Backstreet Boys changed the face of music had me cracking up. The real stand out for me is Kathryn Hahn.... She is hilarious in this film and there seems to be no bounds to what she will do to bring the funny to a scene.
As a film, it makes no sense whatsoever, it is as random as they come but it just does not matter. When you have a cast like this being given free reign to go nuts, all is forgiven.
