Review of The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (2009) by Danny S — 09 Feb 2011
"The Goods" 10 Scale Rating: 4.0 (Well Below Average) ...
The cast was great. It included a lot of people that I personally find funny, but the execution was lacking and reeked of laziness. It was almost as if the director felt that the cast would carry the movie and decided to mail it in.
"The Goods" tells the story of a struggling car dealership who calls in an expert to help get them back on track. The person they contact is Don Ready (Jeremy Piven) who is a legendary mercenary car salesman. He brings in his crack team and gets to work.
First off, Piven was born to play a car salesman. In this movie he was a low budget version of Ari Gold (of "Entourage" fame) and he nails it. He is in fact one of the lone bright spots in the film. The rest of the actors underperformed and I can only blame the script and lack of direction.
There were a few moments that were chuckle-worthy and the movie actually started with a lot of promise. Sadly, it then becomes flat and stale.
