Review of The Goodbye Girl (1977) by Scott M — 21 Oct 2011
Neil Simon's writing style is apparently based around getting his characters to say so many words and be so witty that they lose all creidiblity of being real people. Every character in this movie is given way too much sappy melodrama to work with, and the result is that the lesser actors (Marsha Mason, Quinn Cummings) come off look like over the top hams, whereas Richard Dreyfuss at times manages to harness it all into a decent character at times, mostly through his own charisma.
