Review of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) by Jim C — 29 Oct 2011
Such is the pulsating and impenetrable power of Ennio Morricone's score, I can't help believing that the action in this 'milestone' film was constructed around it. The scene entitled 'The Ectasy of Gold', in all it's technical, beautiful and haunting glory, is possibly the greatest thing I have ever witnessed on screen.
As a whole, I've seen better films, mainly because the Civil War madness that accompanies the story is slightly messy and confusing. Eli Wallach steals every scene he appears in. What filthy worms-nest did he crawl out of?
