Review of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) by Chris B — 01 Feb 2012

While I ultimately (I know i'm alone here) preferred "For a Few Dollars More" to "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" they are both masterpieces of the Western genre and revive it to it's former glory! This is the third and final film of Sergio Leone's "Dollars" trilogy and features both Clint Eastwood as well as Lee Van Cleef like "For a Few Dollars More" although this time Cleef is know as Angel Eyes and is an entirely different character.

It's actually quite interesting to watch him go from the fatherly and masterful good guy to the evil and heartless bad guy, though he is just as deadly! The film is beautifully shot, no matter how many inaccuracies are portrayed throughout, and adds an epic feel to the Western film.

The score provided is haunting and fits the mood and feel of the movie perfectly and only adds another layer of tension to the already breath-holding standoffs! This is by many considered the greatest of all Western films and while I don't know if that can be said so readily, I have to agree that it is a masterpiece of cool and cinema showcasing it's majestic powers in full! ***It should be noted as well in this review that the blu-ray I watched contained the Extended Dubbed Version running at 178 minutes.
