Admittedly, westerns are not my cup of tea. But I felt that I owed it to myself to watch a movie that most claim to be one of the best. At first I was pleasantly surprised by it. The shots were beautiful and cool.
The landscape was brutal. The use of image instead of dialogue to give us plot was very nice. And then slowly, very slowly, I started to get bored. I began to realize that most of what was happening had absolutely nothing to do with the plot.
Side trip over this way, side trip over that way. for three freaking hours! Not every movie needs to be about plot. I get it. I was just so stinking bored. what's the point of a plot if you're not going to spend any time on it? And we kept making side trips into the civil war armies.
ug. I don't care! Just get on with it! That showdown at the cemetery was wonderfully done! I just wish we could have gotten there a little faster. Even if we hadn't, it would be nice if we could fill the time with content that actually was worthwhile.
