What more can I say about this other than it is my favorite movie of all time. It was gritty, realistic, and not afraid to show the real side of the golden days of America. Eastwood is - of course - brilliant.
Lee Van Cleef is believably evil. But although both of these actors showed their best in this movie, but personally I feel Eli Wallach, the Ugly, stole the show. The directing is simple and yet mesmerizing, and the story line grabs you by the neck and doesn't let go till the end.
And the final twenty-or-so minutes is amongst - if not THE - best twenty minutes of cinema I have ever seen.
