Powerful imagery and a film that despite its operatic excesses still manages to rope me in and make me "there" for long periods of time. In this film, Leone takes what´s good in the second part in the trilogy and adds the theme of war, prevalent in about two thirds of the story, with some obvious anti-war sentiment, probably due to this being released during the Vietnam War.

Anyway, three hours that goes by surprisingly quick. In some ways I enjoyed the two earlier films more as they seem more purely spaghetti westerns, relying more on mood and less on a storyline. This film has a more likely story, and much more patos as it involves the horrors of war, but at the same time this makes it more like an ordinary action/western movie. I guess I just like the over the top editing, music etc. of the earlier movies more.
