Review of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) by Jake C — 27 Apr 2012
Wow, this is a good one. Everything about this movie is amazing. The acting? Good as hell. Clint Eastwood is actually rather minimum and more soft-spoken in this one but he still plays the role perfectly and you buy every minute of it. Angel Eyes is a classic villian, his menacing stare and his voice made Lee Van Cleef the best possible choice. However, it is Eli Wallach as Tuco who steals the show. He has the most screen time and has some of the best lines *Although there are tons of them from all three of the main actors*.
The cinematography is breath-taking. If anybody could be called an artist at directing it would be Sergio Leone, this man was born to be behind a camera. The scenery enhances every scene *Especially the desert scenes*.
The music... oh god, the music. This movie has some of the most amazing music ever made for a film. Ennio Morricone composing wonderfully sounding music is no surprise but he really outdid himself here. The music compliments the characters and their actions. This movie simply would not be the same without it.
The plot revolves around buried gold, so none of the characters are REALLY good. Eastwood is only good compared to the other two, but even then he is far from being a saint. I love that too, he isn't a perfect good guy and is pretty corrupt himself at times, but you still cheer for him because he is so badass.
Not much else to say, an amazing film in every sense of the word. A timeless classic that never gets old. One of the few films I give a perfect score.
