This film severely lacked the thrills, chills, and suspence that a moviegoer would expect from this kind of movie. Also, I'd have to say that Culkin's acting in this film was quite a bit emotionless/weak.
Elijah Wood was a much better actor and gave strong, emotional, believable performances.
