Review of The Good Shepherd (2006) by Nitesh R — 06 Apr 2011
The movie gets off to a superb start, however it loses the grip midway. In-spite of having the scope of emotional quotient, the movie thoroughly lacks it. The screenplay looks quite stretched, De Niro and Eric Coth have not left out a single element, no wonder they have worked on the same for 10 yrs.
He has tried to compress every tiny thing in a 3 hr. long cinema. However, Robert De Niro's unmatched experience can be clearly seen in the direction dept. He excels in the execution and it doesn't look like its just his 2nd directorial venture.
Matt Damon gives a rock solid performance. Jolie and Blanchard fill the bill. Joe Pesci gives a surprising comeback after 8 yrs. Overall its quite a dry, but decent movie for the crime genre lovers!
