Review of The Good Shepherd (2006) by Adam P — 19 Oct 2012
A recent article about this film potentially being rewritten in more detail as a cable series caused me to go back and rewatch this film which I initialy did not like. I don't know if my tastes have changed or six years of college have allowed me to understand the themes of the movie better, but I loved it the second time around.
If you love classic spy thrillers like those of La Carre, you shouldn't be dissapointed with this movie. Its raw, intense, and totally emersive. Don't expect this film to be an escape and certainly don't expect the plot to be spoon-fed to you.
At over three hours long you have to totally dedicate yourself to the film, but if you do, it can be a rewarding critique of the rise of the American security state.
