Review of The Good Neighbor (2016) by Vic V — 23 Feb 2017
This was a cleverly filmed thriller that plays with the idea that sometimes we see and believe what we want to see and believe despite an alternate truth staring us right in the face. 2 teenagers break into an old man's house, setting it up with cameras and various devices that will control the electronics in his house with the aim of making him believe he is haunted. They feel no guilt over their actions because of the rumours and stories that have been passed around about their neighbour for the past 12 years. The director then plays with these ideas, giving us opportunities to interpret scenes in different ways.
James Caan, who I don't think I've seen on film since Way of the Gun 17 years ago, does a very decent job of the old man being watched and "haunted". A decent thriller worth catching.
