Review of The Good House (2021) by Serengeti — 09 Oct 2022
I really enjoyed this movie. Sigourney Weaver plays a realtor, mother, drunk who is trying to navigate her life knowing that those who love her are concerned about her drinking. She is a hot mess, but you are really rooting for her.
Her business has taken a huge hit as a former friend, now competitor takes over more and more of her clients. Her two grown children are a bit of a mess too, and need their mother to be there for them.
Kevin Kline is the one bright spot in her life, as they rekindle their high school romance. Weaver’s character talks directly to the camera all throughout the film, which for me, worked really well.
At times, it felt like sitting and talking to a friend who is going through a tough time. This is a dramedy with both high drama and fun comedic moments. There are other characters’s stories going on as well that are not center stage, but no less absorbing.
