Review of The Good Girl (2002) by Jessica L — 29 Oct 2007
I think it's a shame that people see Jennifer Aniston's name on a film and quickly look over it to another with a 'heavyweight' actor in the lead. But I think this has been cast amazingly well.
It's subtlety is its genius. The development of Justine and Holden's relationship is perfectly done - starting out as a thrilling and exciting affair to that part where you finally know the other person enough to realise they're not quite how you imagined them to be.
I also found the structure of the narrative original and near unpredictable.
Granted it does feel slightly slow, but then again, isn't that the point? This Good Girl's life is mundane and appears as if it's not going to go anywhere, and you're on her journey. If you can't find any empathy you might only then find it a slow burner.
