Review of The Good German (2006) by Paul T — 12 Aug 2008
Fun to a point and beautifully shot in bleached black and white, The Good German suffers from a bit of stylistic overkill - the final Casablanca ripoff merely serves to highlight the film's shortcomings.
Also a very uneven performance from Cate Blanchett with an accent that's all over the shop, and equally uneven tone - Clooney plays it straight while Blanchett ODs on the melodrama.
