Review of The Good Dinosaur (2015) by August M — 18 Jan 2016
"'The Good Dinosaur' asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct?".
...No... It doesn't. This movie follows the path of a scared little dinosaur into adulthood after the violent (Lion King-esque) death of his father. I took my 4 and a half year old daughter to this movie thinking it was a good choice over Star Wars, which her brothers were seeing. I was wrong. I can honestly say that I am rarely disappointed by Disney and definitely didn't think they would put anything any scarier than the Cave of Wonders into their movies. My child was not only terrified by the Pixar pre-movie short but.
Spent a good portion of this movie with her eyes covered. If only Pixar/Disney had a hotline for parents to call when their kids wake them up with nightmares in the middle of the night. Also, was it necessary to have a scene in which the characters hallucinated on rotten fruit? It had nothing to do with the storyline. As a person who grew up with classics like "The Little Mermaid", "The Lion King" and Aladdin" all I can say is that I am truly disappointed that my children will not have the same Disney experience that I did.
