Review of The Good Dinosaur (2015) by Gabby R — 19 Apr 2016
It looks like Pixar has caught Disney's Politically Correct disease. This is, without doubt, the worst Pixar movie i've ever seen.
If you're looking for a pretty movie that aims at the lowest common denominator and prides itself on low-brow characters, this is your movie.
There is a lot of preaching. There is very little intelligent dialog. The main dramas in the movie have no emotional resonance. The human pet just doesn't work. At least Pixar squeezed in some gender politics, although greatly toned down from the sexism in Brave (all stupid males) and Inside Out (again, all stupid males).
Pixar seem to be becoming the dumping ground for Disney's garbage. With recent gems like Jungle Book and the partially sexist Big Hero 6 ("man up"), Pixar seem to be losing steam and compensating with extra servings of Political Correctness. Will Finding Dory turn that trend around? Most probably not. Once you catch the PC disease, self righteousness leads you to a path of damnation ... or at least obscurity.
I have a huge amount of respect for Kathleen Kennedy, but someone needs to give her an informed pep-talk about Political Correctness.
