Review of The Good Dinosaur (2015) by James S — 25 Jan 2017
What happens when you cross The Land Before Time with Finding Nemo? Not much, as it turns out.
Runt of the litter Arlo is always struggling to keep up with the rest of his family. They love him very much, but his timid nature is always holding him back. When he gets lost, he needs to rely on his new human friend/pet to brave the journey home.
It's certainly a cute, heartwarming tale with some great relationships in it. Arlo's parents are done very well, and the road-trip dynamic between dinosaur and human hits all the right beats in all the right ways.
There are no real glaring problems with the film; it just doesn't hit any note particularly strongly. Yes, the ending is sweet, and the characters you meet along the way are good (if perhaps underused). There's just nothing to grab you.
