Review of The Good Dinosaur (2015) by Tyler R — 12 Jul 2016
The Good Dinosaur is a prehistoric western. If that doesn't make any sense, then good, because it takes some time for it to settle in during the film. The film shows a world that is inhabited by dinosaurs after the cataclysmic meteor misses Earth and passes by.
For starters, the animation on the environments being photorealistic is simply breathtaking. The geniuses at Pixar keep one-upping themselves, and this is no different. And it is a nice contrast to their cartoony characters.
On the voice acting front, everyone does a good job at fleshing out their characters, especially Sam Elliot as a hardened T-Rex. The letdown for me was that, despite being a Pixar film, the plot seemed very basic and run of the mill.
It almost felt like a greatest hits type of film, swiping plot points from various Disney flicks. Despite that flaw, though, The Good Dinosaur is a pretty good film, just not a great one.
