Review of The Golden Compass (2007) by Byron K — 19 May 2012
The athiest's comeback to Narnia... It sucks.. Dakota Blue Richards plays one of the worst female leads I have ever seen and the shockingly written dialogue just makes matters worse. Kidman delivers a splendid performance, the only one in the entire film.
The soundtrack is rubbish, you feel like you are either watching Conan the Barbarian or a rubbish computer game. Ian McKellen's voice acting is brilliant and his character is fleshed out brilliantly because of the amazing special effects, fully deserving of its oscar.
Yes this is part one to a trilogy but at the end, this just seems to hang horribly.. LOTR The Fellowship of the Ring concluded itself brilliantly while letting people scream for the next film.. This does not.
. The directing is amateurish in parts.. The only thing that makes this movie cool is Gandalf re-incarnated as a jaw smashing polar bear and awesomely animated creatures.
