This movie was just okay. Most of the themes were not consistant with the hype, and no overriding religious theme was evident. Yes, the author of the series is Atheist, but none of the rumors about this movie came true.
Although I cannot speak for the other two movies, as they have not been produced, this movie was probably the worst fantasy movie New Line has ever produced. If you are expecting another LOTR type movie, you will be sadly mistaken.
