Review of The Golden Compass (2007) by K-Bob H — 13 Oct 2014
Entertaining enough but an incredibly disappointing, internally inconsistent adaptation from the delightful and brilliant source material. For example, Lord Asriel refers to the mother of his daughter whom we can later be sure he knows quite well as "that Coulter woman", which makes sense from the audience's perspective, but only in the moment.
In retrospect. To be sure, we don't know yet that her name is Marissa, but it could certainly have been less clumsy.
