Review of The Golden Compass (2007) by Jaden R — 22 Jul 2015
One of the many films produced to in the effort to find another young adult fantasy book series that could be milked for a profitable series of films. It's commercial failure killed New Line. It deserved to.
The screenplay is wretched. Every plot development is explained through long scenes of expositional dialogue that somehow still fail to explain the plot in a satisfactory manner. I was constantly in the dark about character motivations and actions and found the film to be extremely dull as a result.
I wanted to like a film that features talking battle bears ... I really did.
