Review of The Golden Compass (2007) by Jennifer E — 27 May 2012
Great film for children, and I must say the score is very contagious.
I absolutely love the ice bears, especially in their armour. I've not read the book yet, so I'm a bit lost on the plot and the concept of "dust'. Lyra's character reminds me of Harry Potter. Always getting into trouble, because she's trying to do the right thing.
I can see why so many people were offended, from the beginning. "Deamons" were a part of Greek teaching, an essential part of our psyche; not shape-shifting totems. This is unheard of to many people, so of course they wouldn't understand it. I am relieved to see that witches were finally potrayed in a positive way!
