The Golden Compass belongs next to the best in the fantasy genre, with bold ideas, richly textured visuals, startlingly believable special effects, and lovely performances from each and every cast member.
It beats Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe in every department, and sets up a sequel more compellingly than even The Fellowship of the Ring. A lovely fantasy.
