Review of The Golden Compass (2007) by Paul J — 25 May 2012
A shame this movie didn't work out. It had potential. The world full of animals, with its polar bears and epic landscapes could have been magical. Instead, the countless awkward plot points and convenient contrivances make it painful.
The characters lack motivation and all the CGI became tiresome after a while. Plus, it has no ending. I know it has its fans but I couldn't help but think of how lame it was compared to Lord of the Rings.
All these children fantasy epics seemed to have surfaced because of Jackson/Tolkien's successful trilogy. None come close.
