Review of The Gold Rush (1925) by Jonathan D — 09 Jun 2007
Consistently engaging, always amusing, at times hysterically, gut-bustingly funny...and I'm not even an "old-movie" person. The three best bits in the film are the storm pushing everyone out the cabin/Chaplin trying to get out of the way of the rifle (that scene just kept building on itself! LOL!), the partners dancing scene payoff as Chaplin ties a "rope" around his trousers to keep them up, and the classic "forks in potatoes dance" that Johnny Depp recreated in Benny and Joon (Chaplin's version is equal parts funny and visually brilliant, and yet so simple).
Give it a shot, especially if you're in the mood for something different.
