Review of The Gold Rush (1925) by D.j. M — 20 Jun 2007
It may not be his overall best film but I believe this to be the movie that above all others proves/best displays Chaplin's genius. To this day there has still not been anyone to rival it. The man literally did everything when it came to his films. There are so many great comedy bits in this one that have been mimicked over the years. The greatest moments- The dance of the dinner rolls and the scene in the bar with The Tramp and the dog on the leash. This film is the perfect example of what made Chaplin the first mega-movie star, the uncanny ability to mix comedy with tragedy, making you laugh hysterically while feeling like you should cry at the same time. Watching this movie is a sure way to put a smile on your face.
Were you guys really expecting me to come up with a quote from a silent movie?
