Review of The Gold Rush (1925) by Lia D — 11 Apr 2010
100/100. Silent comedy. Charlie Chaplin plays his little tramp character attempting to make it rich in the Yukon, Alaska gold rush. Unquestionably one of the greatest movies of all time, judging by the fact it was on every list I could find on the subject.
It is a classic masterpiece. Charlie Chaplin is brilliant, both his direction and his acting. Tremendously funny, touching and sweet. It's a rare filmmaker that can combine slapstick humor with heart wrenching scenes.
Absolutely wonderful. Interesting tidbit: Since the Academy Awards did not exist in 1925, when this film was re-released in 1942, it did receive two nominations.
