Review of The Gods Must Be Crazy (1980) by Dave H — 22 Aug 2008
One of the reasons this is so awesome is that its traditional narrative structure is cleverly disguised in a pseudo-documentary framework which contrasts delightfully with the absurd, brilliant (and very unsophisticated) physical slapstick.
I've never seen anything like it, but it's much more than a curiosity piece or a brilliant example of guerrilla film-making. Wonderfully distilled theme of how the trappings of the modern world distract us from simple joys, and of how honest heart (no matter how bumbling) should win out over faux-style-and-fame any day.
Not to mention the "Anti-Christ" - this car is the funniest character in the movie.
