Review of The Godfather Part III (1990) by Scott N — 13 Jul 2011
This should have been so much better. This is what happens when a film that nobody needs or really wants gets rushed into production by a director who is a shadow of himself and seems to want to make anything but another godfather film.
Whats makes this movie watchable is the performance of Andy Garcia who plays the character of Vinny brilliantly but his characters incest story line with his cousin is to distracting, im not sure what coppola was thinking on that one.
Pacino does his best, but his character of Michael is written in way that is interesting and unbelievably boring, his story line with the Vatican weighs this film down so much you cant weight for the resolution.
Missed Dearly is Robert Duvall as Tom Hagen, a character who deserved a much better ending then a off screen heart attack . Everyone always complains about Sophia Coppola and while her performance is poor, all the complaints and criticisms should go to her father for casting her in the first place, talk about a conflict of interest.
I wish someone like Martin Scorsese had made this instead because it seems like coppola didn't want to make this, someone like Scorsese could have had a fresh take on it. In the end Godfather 3 is a cautionary tale of a film not living up to the standard it set for itself.
