Review of The Godfather Part III (1990) by Sam M — 09 Dec 2015
If you really felt compelled to, you could probably slaughter this film to pieces when discussing it. But I feel The Godfather III will always get cut a little bit of slack seeing that the first two are two of the greatest movies ever made, maybe the greatest.
So after waiting over 15 years to finalize the trilogy, I would not expect things to just pick up and be as smooth and brilliant as they were for the first two films. Its not really a matter of comparing this movie to the first two, you really cant, it is completely different and so far apart.
As much as it pains me to say though since I am such a huge fan of the series, The Godfather III is downright boring and rather silly. I am just going to point out a scene which is back up to my statement that the movie is silly.
Andy Garcia whacks the rival mob boss dressed as a cop while riding a horse in broad daylight. Are you kidding me ? Who thought of that ? Lets whack out the rival family boss by having Andy Garcia on a horse like a cowboy in the middle of New York in broad daylight, yeah that's a good idea.
Pacino is fine in this movie as he usually is, there is nothing wrong with him at all in this movie. But Coppola decided to give Talia Shire WAY too much screen time and lines in this movie. First and foremost, she's really not that great of an actor, at all.
And her character now is trying to take control of family affairs and now SHE is having people killed... its just ridiculous and makes no sense. A must see for fans of the Godfather series so you can have closure, but don't expect anything great.
