Review of The Godfather Part III (1990) by Jeffrey M — 27 Nov 2011
Part III is not in the same league as either of the first two films (as has been obviously stated since its' release), but luckily the blu ray transfer is largely on par. The film itself doesn't have the script of the first two, nor the same engrossing tension and atmosphere. The whole subplot with the Vatican seems borderline silly at times, and Sofia Coppola was certainly miscast. Still, it has a lot to like, notably a solid continuation of the Kay and Michael arc, as well as an impressive showing by Andy Garcia. The film also has an especially strong third act, ending on a poignant and authentic note.
Overall, I felt the entire series had an excellent restoration job, and the blu ray collection is very much worth checking out.
