Review of The Godfather Part III (1990) by Eduardo T — 13 Aug 2012
I had always wondered why people refer this as the worst from the trilogy. Now I see why. Right from the start I was disappointed in it's story telling but it does pick up towards the end. I didn't really like the introduction of the character Vincent.
Overall, this was a fascinating and intriguing character but they don't do much with him. For being such a dark and ambitious character he did accomplish what had to be done. But I wanted to see more.
Sure the whole deal with him and Mary was slightly written well it just isn't enough. The scene in which Michael confesses has to be the best. It really stood out from all the other scenes of the film.
What I also noticed was the difference in directing style. It was hard for me to believe Francis Ford Coppola directed this. Everything from the camera angles to the close ups was way different then the first two.
Just because the directing style is different doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't any good. But in this case it's no good. What is good about this film is the acting. The first two had it better but this is good as well.
Not Al Pacino's best performance. The first two also had better production values. Their isn't much of a difference but first two had better cinematography. Especially part 2. Although the art direction is very good.
If you're a fan then watch it but don't set high standards for yourself.
