Review of The Godfather Part III (1990) by Sean S — 26 Nov 2012
The film does much of the same as the first two installments, but the actors getting on in their years and lacking some of the same electricity they still were, along with the newcomers' lack of less immediate, knowing talent (including Sofia Coppola in her dividing role as Michael's daughter Mary Corleone--it truly is hard to tell if she's just a bad actress or brings a rawness to her role, as noted by Roger Ebert) make this less of a quality outing than its predecessors.
Michael tries to make the Corleone family's business legitimate, trying to buy a majority share in real estate holding company Immobiliare, and being crowned a Commander of the Order of St. Sebastian.
The film's integration with real-life events may just feel like ordinary events to people unaware of them, but its handling of them, as well as the transferral of power from Michael to his nephew Vincent (Andy Garcia) feel less smooth and distinctive here than they did 16 years prior.
