Review of The Godfather Part III (1990) by Jessica C — 09 Aug 2018
Al Pacino, Talia Shire, Diane Keaton gave superb performances. Unfortunately, for the entire project, the role of Mary being played by Sofia Coppola brought the film down. The role originally was going to be played by Winona Ryder and it is unfortunate that she backed out of the project.
Although Sofia Coppola is a fine director, her role, which was pivotal, Godfather III was lackluster and disappointing. Al Pacino was convincing as a Michael Corleone redeemed, Diane Keaton as his long suffering xwife, Talia Shire as the she demon sister Connie Corleone, were stellar but could not make up for the lack of credibility of Mary Corleone, and next to actors of such caliber, her performance was only more glaringly inadequate.
I have seen the movie many times, and have thought about it over the year, how the Godfather Trilogy disappointingly ended. The plot of the movie was absolutely ridiculous, and this also made the movie seem phony and not credible, whereas, in Godfather 1 & 2 you definitley could believe that there was once a Corleone family dynasty.
Worth seeing, but I wish it could have been made differently but with such a ridiulous plot, it is hard to imagine that even actors of such caliber could make the movie beleivable.
